GCS clothing store and art gallery is proud to host our friends from Black Book Sessions for their 20th event. The organizers are happy that they have made it to the big 2-0. If you do not know about the event, it is billed as a “free community event” that combines a youth art contest with guest artists painting live along with Dj’s and music. We had the pleasure of hosting them in ’09 at our Broadway location. This event is scheduled for MAY 30th, from 1pm to 6pm. Of course its free and all ages, but if you know some artists that would like to participate, contact www.blackbooksessions.org.

Delinquent Habits at Psycho De Mayo ’15
May 5th, 2015. It’s that time of year again, time for The Psycho Realm’s premier event of the year entitled Psycho De Mayo. This year, they brought it to The Observatory in Santa Ana. Although there was a strong line up of up and coming, young artists on the bill, by the time GCS got to the venue we were only able to catch Delinquent Habits, Evidence and of course Psycho Realm. Here are some pictures we grabbed of Kemo The Blaxican and Ives Irie while they rocked their set.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony performing “E. 1999 Eternal”
May 3rd, 2015. This event was definitely one for the history books. Layzie, Bizzy, Wish Bone, Flesh-N-Bone and Krayzie Bone otherwise known as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony performed their album “E. 1999 Eternal” in its entirety. The Observatory has done a great job not only booking high quality music acts, but they have been successful in getting these acts to perform some of their more classic albums for these special shows. Nothing against new material but it never hurts to take it back to those albums that made people die hard fans to begin with. The main room at The Observatory was treated to a piece of hip hop history that they will soon not forget.

“Bringing Out The Dead” Art Show Nov ’12
Nov 3rd, 2012. The November art walk was always one of the biggest art walks of the year. Coinciding with the “Noche De Altares” event on 4th st., it was a perfect choice to launch our day of the dead themed art show. GCS always enjoyed the challenge of curating a themed group art show. And this one was one of our favorites. We took a break from the theme this last november but look out for “Bringing Out The Dead” art show to return in ’15.
“Sexy Hangover” by Neko Burke Dec ’12
Dec. 1st, 2012. GCS was happy to land this high quality art show with Neko Burke entitled “Sext Hangover” This guy is an amazing artist. The very impressive pieces that he brought out for the show combined mixed media paintings, carpentry and wood working. More installations than art pieces, this was the type of art show that raises the bar for future art shows. This guy is prolific, so keep an eye out for this guy.

The Raossance – Don’t Look, Don’t Touch May 17, 2014
Today we look back at an art show that we hosted in our broadway gallery last year with RAOS. The title of the show was The RAOSSANCE / Don’t Look, Don’t Touch. This was a great solo show for this artist, which combined original canvas paintings, ink and mixed media illustrations, wooden sculpture and a cardboard coffin installation. The colors were bright, the imagery unique and the execution was on point. We need more RAOS in our gallery.

Rise of the Endangered by Jonathan Martinez April 5, 2014
April 5th, 2014. This art walk marked GCS Clothing Store’s 5th year in the city of Santa Ana. It was hard to believe that it was april of 2009 when GCS opened it’s doors in DTSA. To help us celebrate the date, we had the pleasure of hosting a solo art show by Jonathan Martinez entitled “Rise of the Endangered”. Original acrylic on canvas and ink on paper pieces filled the gallery. Two lucky recipients won the raffle and walked away with an original J. Martinez. And as Always, GCS is honored and happy to have had 5 years of bringing quality art, artists and events to the people of central orange county.
